FREE READING GLASSES
With the assistance of partnered local optometrists, we provide free testing and provision of free prescription reading glasses for both primary (all students) and secondary (means tested) students.
The message sent to these students and families is that they themselves and their education are important. The smiling faces of the students who have benefited from their programs are a testament to the joy and fulfilment that come from receiving a helping hand when it’s needed the most.
3,522 pairs of glasses have been provided free to vision-impaired children to date.
REPLACEMENT MEALS
Many students in this City of Casey community come from low-income households and struggle with food insecurity.
By providing 4,000 nutritious meal items every 4 weeks to these students, ACE is helping to alleviate hunger and ensure that every student is able to focus on their studies without worrying about where their next meal will come from. These are given to students who attend school without having had breakfast or who have no prepared lunch.
Over 528,000 meal replacement items have been delivered to the 12 local secondary schools in the City of Casey to date.
READING BOOKS
We provide a free hard cover reading book to every prep student when they begin school each year. We believe that providing a book for each child to own and take home is both a symbolic and real gesture. It sends a message to each child of their own importance in our education system and of the importance of books with regard to learning.
We have gifted 47,000 hard cover books to date.
ENCOURAGEMENT AWARDS
We provide $600 to 63 primary and secondary schools within the City of Casey yearly. Each school selects 6 students who are deserving of a reward and encouragement for their hard work and diligence. These bursaries are not for the best and brightest but for kids who have shown diligence and a willingness to try despite having to overcome challenges.
To date we have provided $415,800 in bursaries.
